Vegetable Garden Update - April 18, 2026
This year has been a fast transition from slow-prep mode to full swing with our vegetable garden. Spring was a beautiful season with rapidly warming temperatures in the D.C. area. Temps are still swinging back and forth, but with a number of 90+ degree days behind us and no foreseeable days below freezing, the ground should be warm enough to begin planting.
The garlic and arugula are doing great. Arugula always does well in colder weather. Hopefully we will be eating arugula in the next couple of weeks.

We planted a couple of test tomato plants and they are doing well. I think we're going to wait another week or so before planting additional ones.

Our newly installed trellises for vertical gardening are holding tight, which means our installation method worked. The installation of these wasn't too bad, but did take a bit of muscle to bend them the right way. I think these will work much better than our past method that involved poles, string, and zip ties.

We even have a new little garden pet! A little garden snake to hopefully keep some of the pests away.
